Workers Compensation Boards Collaborate to Discuss Emerging Trends

June 25, 2015

Heads of Workers Compensation Boards across the country gathered in Prince Edward Island this week to share best practices, emerging trends and discuss ways to further support employers and workers across Canada through effective and strategic governance.

The Governance Summit is organized by the Association of Workers Compensation Boards of Canada (AWCBC). The Association was founded in 1919 as a non-profit organization to facilitate the exchange of information between Workers' Compensation Boards and Commissions.

"Meetings such as this help us to better anticipate and respond to the changing needs of employers and workers," said Dave Grundy, AWCBC President. "We are committed to working in partnership to provide the safest and healthiest workplaces in the world. Our discussions over these past few days have focused on critical issues that cross all of our jurisdictions."

The theme for this year's Summit was "People, Purpose & Passion: The Pathway to Success" and the agenda included a variety of sessions and discussions focused on strengthening governance.

Topics covered included Risk Management, Lessons Learned in BC's Combustible Dust Fire Tragedy, Recognition and Reporting of Occupational Disease, and Mental Health, among many others.

This year's delegates were treated to an engaging and motivating presentation by two time Olympic gold medalist and local hero, Heather Moyse.

The conference wraps up on Friday. For more information on the AWCBC, visit their website at http://awcbc.org/ or contact the AWCBC office toll-free at 1-855-282-9222.
