Workers Compensation Board of Prince Edward Island

WCB grant recipients selected

December 14, 2018

The Workers Compensation Board of P.E.I. is pleased to announce that eight Island organizations have been awarded grants through the new WCB Grant Program introduced earlier this year.

“The organizations receiving grants this year will help bring innovative solutions to keeping workers safe and at work,” said Stuart Affleck, Chair of the Workers Compensation Board. “The projects will expand the body of knowledge for injury prevention and return to work that is available to Island workers and employers and will have lasting impacts in those areas.”

The WCB Grant program provides financial supports under two funding streams, workplace innovation and training and education. Projects are evaluated on their idea, impact, achievability, and alignment with the WCB strategic priorities of enhancing workplace safety culture and improving return-to-work outcomes.

Over $435,000 was awarded for the eight projects, and they feature a range of different ideas and span across a variety of industries. The projects funded include the use of technology to create a more engaging health and safety program, new health and safety training courses and programs not currently available in PEI workplaces, and injury prevention approaches targeted for certain industries or workplaces to tackle issues around safety and return-to-work.  A list of recipients and their projects can be found at www.wcb.pe.ca/information/grantprogram.

“The WCB Grant program supports our strategic commitments to enhancing PEI’s workplace safety culture and promoting recovery and well-being for those who have been injured at work,” said Luanne Gallant, CEO of the Workers Compensation Board. “We are very pleased with the level of interest in the program during its introductory year, and the grant recipients are to be congratulated for their efforts and the unique ideas put forward in their proposals.”

The next intake for the program is March 2019. More information on the grant program and evaluation criteria is available on the WCB website at www.wcb.pe.ca/information/grantprogram.
