Workers Compensation Board of Prince Edward Island

OHS Leadership Program

OHS Leadership Program
The Workers Compensation Board of PEI is seeking high school students (*two per school) to become Occupational Health and Safety leaders. We recommend that you apply in teams of two to increase your likelihood of a successful application to the program. We will select and notify each school’s leadership team by Thursday, October 5, 2017.

Application to the program is open until Monday, October 2, 2017.

OHS Leaders are required to:

  • Attend a one-day orientation and training session at the Hunter River Community Center on Thursday, October 19, 2017 (mileage will be paid). This is a PD day, so you will not be missing class!
  • Work as a leadership team at your school to organize six events, spaced out over the school year. These events/activities will help to raise awareness among other students about workplace health and safety.
  • Work under the guidance of the Youth Education Consultant and maintain good communication (about your events and planning).
  • Document events/activities and produce a year-end summary of what you did.

An eligible applicant:

  • Is in Grade 11 or 12
  • Is good at connecting with other students and coordinating with school staff
  • Is interested in learning, and helping others to learn, about how to stay safe at work
  • Plans to pursue further education/training sometime after high school
