WCB Hosts 5th Annual Workplace Health and Safety Conference - April 2004
The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) is holding its 5th Annual Conference on Workplace Health and Safety on April 14 and 15 at the Delta Prince Edward in Charlottetown. This world class event provides workshops on some of the most current and comprehensive health and safety training practices available today. Fourteen different speakers, including feature guest and international consultant Paul Tanaka will present. Carol Anne Duffy, CEO of the Workers Compensation Board, said “the conference is an important event for WCB and all Islanders. WCB is committed to reducing workplace accidents on Prince Edward Island through both enforcement of minimum health and safety standards and through education. In 2003, over 900 Canadians died from workplace injury and disease in Canada. The workplace health and safety conference provides a forum for learning about prevention, so together we can eliminate accidents in the workplace.” Jim Lee, Chair of Workers Compensation Board, said he is “encouraged to see the continued interest and commitment on behalf of Islanders who want to help improve workplace health and safety on Prince Edward Island. Workers and employers are showing they are concerned with due diligence, and are recognizing the need to formally incorporate prevention into workplace planning by instituting health and safety programs, policy and procedures.” Jim Lee added that “by working together we can create a culture of safety where workplace accidents and illness become a thing of the past. The Workers Compensation Board is committed to promoting safe workplaces and protecting employers and workers.” For more information contact Mark Barrett: Tel: (902) 894-0362
