WCB Hosts 11th Annual Workplace Health & Safety Conference
The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) of Prince Edward Island is holding its 11th Annual Workplace Health & Safety Conference on April 23, 2010 at the Delta Prince Edward in Charlottetown. The conference is an opportunity to connect people who face health and safety issues in the workplace with information that can prevent injury and save lives. "Over the years, the WCB Workplace Health & Safety Conference has become a veritable institution for Islanders to share knowledge about today's workplace safety issues," said Nancy Guptill, Chair of the Workers Compensation Board. "The WCB is committed to working together with Island workers and employers to create a culture of workplace safety, through activities such as this conference." The conference provides a forum for some of the region’s foremost experts in occupational health and safety to share their expertise and to showcase products and services to make work a safer place for us all. "In order to promote safety in a variety of work settings, the Workplace Health & Safety Conference covers an extensive range of topics," said WCB CEO Carol Anne Duffy. "Each year, we examine the issues that are most relevant to Island workplaces and develop workshops that deliver practical tools that can be brought back to the workplace." This year's conference workshops include: young worker safety; safe lifting techniques; lockout procedures; the causes of workplace injury; stress management; hearing protection; pandemic planning; and the operation of lifts, platforms and ladders.
