WCB Seeks Views of Employers and Workers on Key Issues - May 2001 The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) is communicating with workers, employers and the general public on key issues such as policy, legislation and financial status as part of a progressive agenda to continually improve services for Islanders. Carol Anne Duffy, Chief Executive Officer of WCB explained that a Legislative Advisory Committee with stakeholder representation was established in March 2001 in response to the need to review the Workers Compensation Act. “The role of the advisory committee is to explore possible amendments to the Act and make recommendations to Government for legislative change,” said Duffy. “The committee is also holding a series of public meetings beginning in mid May to hear comments from employers, workers and the general public on certain sections of the Act.” Workers Compensation Board’s CEO also pointed out that Client Services’ policies are being reviewed, updated and amended through a policy review process. Duffy stated that “all Client Services’ policies are being critiqued, put into a more understandable format and are being made accessible to employers, workers, health providers and the general public.” On May 14th, the first of these draft policies will be available for review and comment on WCB’s website. The Hon. Jim Lee, Chair of Workers Compensation Board, emphasized that the Board and WCB senior management have been traveling across the province during the Winter and Spring months to deliver presentations to employers and workers on the current status of WCB. “It is important to have face to face communication with Islanders on issues such as the overall financial and program pressures impacting the workers compensation system. A successful system depends upon open communication and cooperation between all system stakeholders,” said Lee, “and understanding each others needs, concerns and actions is the best way to continually improve our organization as a whole.” For more information contact Mark Barrett: Tel: (902) 894-0362
