WCB Cautions Public on Clean-up after Hurricane Juan! - October 2003

The Workers Compensation Board is informing employers, workers and the general public about the importance of following safe practices while using chain saws in the clean-up after hurricane Juan. In the aftermath of the hurricane there has been and continues to be a need to remove trees, branches and limbs from properties across Prince Edward Island.

George Stewart, Director of Occupational Health and Safety for the Workers Compensation Board, said “he is especially concerned about inexperienced and untrained workers using chain saws. As a first step, it is essential when operating a chain saw to have the appropriate safety gear, e.g., wearing chain saw pants, chain saw boots, safety hats, screens and hearing protection.” Stewart encourages workers, employers and the public to contact the Occupational Health and Safety division of the Workers Compensation Board at 902-368-5697 for more information.
