Entitlement Officer
FULL-TIME TEMPORARY POSITION
(beginning immediately for approximately 1 year, with possible extension)

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) helps to build safe and healthy workplaces in PEI and provides benefits and services to reduce the impact of work-related injuries.

The Entitlement Officer position adjudicates and determines entitlement to benefits on all incoming claims as well as recurrences within established standards and benchmarks. This position is responsible for gathering information and examining incoming claims for the purpose of determining entitlement and referring as appropriate to the Work Disability Prevention Section.

The Entitlement Officer reports to the Manager, Claim Processing and Adjudication. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Determining entitlement to compensation, benefits for injured workers and ensures timely claim decisions.
  • Authorizing appropriate services and benefits for injured workers, including Medical Aid, and Temporary Wage Loss benefits based on legislation and policy.
  • Verifying and authorizing the calculation and payment of benefits.
  • Transferring claims based on established guidelines.
  • Collaborating with workers, employers and health care providers to ensure complete and timely access to information required for decision making.
  • Ensuring access by the injured worker to appropriate medical and rehabilitation services by establishing effective working relationships with, and coordinates the efforts of employers, health care providers, unions and other service providers.
  • Ensuring worker files are up to date, summarized and completed and ensuring the documentation of reasoned decisions, including rationale, to support weighing of evidence is on file.
  • Working together and actively participates in service improvement initiatives.
  • Working responsibly to follow safe work practices as defined by the organization.

The Entitlement Officer interprets and applies Workers Compensation Board legislation, policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a relevant post-secondary degree, supplemented by considerable (3 years) experience in a responsible position demonstrating the applicant’s decision making abilities, analytical and critical thinking skills, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Experience working in a client centered team environment with responsibility for interpreting legislation and policy and/or determining entitlement; as well as demonstrated ability to manage a client case load is preferred.

Applicants must have the proven ability to compose clear and concise communication materials and to do mathematical calculations to determine wage loss benefit.

A sound knowledge of medical terminology and an ability to interpret medical reports is an asset.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be articulated in the application process.

Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.

A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.

Location: Charlottetown, PE
Salary: Level 17: $38.61 - $47.42 per hour
