OHS Education Consultant
FULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) helps to build safe and healthy workplaces in PEI and provides benefits and services to reduce the impact of work-related injuries and illnesses.

The OHS Education Consultant is responsible for the design, development, promotion, and delivery of illness and injury prevention strategies in all Island workplaces covered by the OH&S Act and Regulations of Prince Edward Island.

The OHS Education Consultant is a member of an education team that provides innovative leadership and works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver effective health and safety education. The incumbent is responsible for developing presentation content, including technical content for web/virtual based learning, developing and facilitating workshops and webinars and creating a variety of education material to educate stakeholders.

This position is a key liaison with other education partners to build health and safety education capacity and opportunities for workers, employers, and the general public.

The OHS Education Consultant reports to the Manager, Prevention Services. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Educating employers, workers, labour organizations, associations and health and safety committees in illness and injury prevention strategies and workplace health and safety legislation.
  • Developing and disseminating health and safety resources and publications (e.g. hazard alerts, safety guides, etc.).
  • Promoting compliance with, and interpreting the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for management, owners, health and safety committees and program consultants in PEI workplaces.
  • Promoting the development and use of healthy and safe practices to workers, their supervisors, employers, labour organizations, and associations through presentations, workshops and education sessions in workplaces.
  • Preparing and delivering presentation materials and resources for the annual workplace health and safety conference, workshops, expositions, conventions and public forums.
  • Coordinating and contributing to the development of e-Learning courses and leverage learning technologies that engage the learner.
  • Researching OHS safety information and injury prevention topics to provide employers, workers and the general public with current best practice and solutions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Bachelor of Education Degree from a recognized university, supplemented by extensive experience in program development and facilitation OR a university degree combined with a Certificate in Adult Education with extensive experience in program development and facilitation. A demonstrated sound knowledge of health and safety issues and principles is essential. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be clearly articulated in the application process.

Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.

A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.

Position Available: Permanent Full-time position
Location: Charlottetown, PE
Salary: Level 16: $37.56 - $46.08 per hour
