Workers Compensation Board of Prince Edward Island

OHS Act & Regulations

The WCB is responsible for administering workplace safety legislation on Prince Edward Island. This legislation is the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and its regulations.

The OHS Act and its regulations describe the minimum standards for occupational health and safety on PEI and the general safety principles for Island workplaces.

These references, along with codes of practice, can be viewed by clicking on the links below. Many regulations under the OHS Act refer to standards published by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group). The CSA standards that are referenced in OHS regulations set out safety requirements that must be followed to be in compliance with the OHS regulations. CSA allows free (viewable only) access to standards referenced in the regulations. Registration with CSA Communities is required to view the standards. However, you are under no obligation to purchase anything. To view the CSA standards, please see the following CSA Standards Postcard for more information. The WCB also has a role in enforcing the Smoke - Free Places Act and its regulations, and the Youth Employment Act.
