When a workplace tragedy results in a worker’s death from a compensable work-related injury or illness, the WCB can help support the worker’s family. A case manager will help guide you through survivor benefits and the supports available to you.
Burial costs
The WCB provides an allowance for the burial, cremation, or memorial services of a worker who dies as a result of a workplace injury or illness.
Survivor Benefits
A spouse, child or sole dependant will receive a lump sum payment equal to 100% of the maximum annual earnings in the year the worker’s death occurred. They may also receive monthly benefit payments afterward.
